South Beach Harbor (AT&T Park)

July 15-17

Leaving Paradise Cove we motored around the bay.  Looking in at Ayala Cove, passing Tiburon, and Belvedere Yacht Club, then on to Sausalito.  There were a lot of boats anchored out at Sausalito in shallow water half of the them look derelict.  We proceded out under the Golden Gate Bridge for some more photo ops.  To bad it was foggy again.  There was no wind so we motored slowly along San Francisco waterfront, seeing all the sights from a different perspective.  We crossed under the Bay Bridge with only 150 feet of clearance, and stopped at South Beach Harbor Pier 40.  This marina is right next to the Giants AT&T Park.  We motored over to where people catch home run balls that are hit in the bay.  The giants are out of town, which is the only reason there was a spot open for us in the marina.  After tying up and settling down we washed down the boat getting all the salt off, filled the water tank, and went for a walk.

Long walk to land, over 700 slips in this marina

With AT&T park so close we decided to walk around it and see the park up close.

The next day we took the electric muni train to market street and then 2 bus transfers later we were within 3 blocks of Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world.  The first block felt as though it was straight up but was probably less than 30 degrees.  At the top of Lombard St. lots of people were taking pictures, as they were at the bottom.  The flowers (hydrangeas), trees and vines are very pretty, and the street very crooked.

We then walk a few blocks to bus 39 which would take us to Coit Tower.  What a ride, as you go up the hill the street is very narrow and steep, glad I was not driving.  Very nice view from on top.  From here we made it back to Pier 39 for lunch and then a nice ride down Embarcadero Street on one of the old electric street cars, and with one transfer back to the marina.
