November 7, 2016 through November 8,
2016 (Election Day USA)
Brad was able to contact tech support this morning and fix
enough of our communication issues to get a basic GRIB file. It looks like the wind is getting lighter and
variable in a couple days, so we packed up to leave.
A couple of the other sailing vessels weighed anchor too and
are a few miles behind us. This is a two
night passage. We are heading for the east shore of Isla Magdalena and Punta
Belcher. We are hearing chatter on the
radio from some of the folks we met in Ensenada who are approaching Bahia
Tortugas.
The winds are light so we break out the spinnaker. It is a desperate move to avoid using the
engine. It actually works although we
did have to go off course to make it so.
Fortunately we have time to waste, as we want to reach our destination
in the light of day.

Both nights are fairly
uneventful with good visibility and not too rough.
November 9 & 10, 2016
We anchor south of Punta Belcher in water so clear you can see the chain on the ground. No sooner did we get settled and fog engulfed us.
We are not far from an active fish camp. At night the fishermen scatter all across the bay.
The surf is light on this side of the island. The dinghy is launched. Summer Place is anchored in the distance. While I comb the beach for treasures, Brad snorkels nearby. The water is refreshing.
Looking South to Isla Santa Maria
Thunderclouds over the land bring a welcome on shore breeze.
We try out the hatch covers we made to keep out the bugs.
Awesome sunset on Bahia Magdalena
