Fly Basin

FURY COVE, MOON

Good night on anchor.  The moon was large and bright.  Today there will be a blue moon.  Two boats have departed already and another two are ready to leave on our heels at 08:00.  The sun is shining.  We have a light breeze and swells coming in from the sound.

DEPARTING FURY COVE

It is a short trip today.  We’re just skipping down to the next inlet at Smith Sound.  There are plenty of boaters out and about.  Turning into Smith Sound we go between the islands through Browning Channel.

TAKUSH HARBOUR, SMITH INLET

Inside Takush Harbour there is a narrow entrance to a more protected area called Fly Basin.  There are some flies here, but not the hordes one might expect.

The two power boats depart shortly after we arrive.  Could this be the lone anchorage we have been hoping for?  Almost.  This evening a small motor boat came in and sat down 200 yards away.  This afternoon was a bit different. For our leisure time we chose to clean and wax some of the fiber glass, polish some of the stainless steel, and take the twist out of halyards and lines.  Engine hours 3.5, nautical miles 20.3.  Our GPS coordinates:  51⁰16’279 N, 127⁰36’236 W.

BLUE MOON RISING

SECOND FULL MOON OF THE MONTH

Note:  Ten days of pre-made dinners left in the freezer.  We have only eaten out once.  We will have to make the jump to civilization soon and start cooking if we want this experience to continue.  Also we only brought a limited supply of chocolate and it ran out a couple days ago.  Everyone is still living.
