The Waiting Game

We’re
staying put for today and resting up sort of.
We took a long, long walk through the forest this morning to see a
couple of really big trees. It’s like a
different world in the forest, so quiet and so full of life if you take the
time to look. The marina emptied and
then filled up again with the current changes.
At least six boats came in within a half hour. Most of the vessels are motor boats from 30
to 80 feet in length. One sailboat had a
difficult time landing due to the influence of the current, but with multiple
attempts and loads of determination, she finally made it.

Lunch
today us on the patio at the resort. We
have determined the best time to leave for the rapids is 16:00. I did another load of wash, we helped land a
few more boats, filled the water tank with the UV sterilized spring water, paid
our bill, and waited, and waited. The
wind has picked up, so we get help holding the bow as we back out of the
slip. The current runs with us, then
against us at 3-4 knot, and then finally with us at 3 knots through whirlpool
rapids. There is a gale warning for
Johnstone strait, so we’re getting 30 plus knots of wind on the bow going
through Chancellor Channel. We batten
down the hatches and close up the cockpit just in the nick of time. Turning up Wellbourne channel it is
better. Our destination is Forward
Harbour where we arrive at 19:00. There
are more boats here than we have seen, 10-16 now, 1-3 usual. 200 feet of rode out, 2.9 engine hours, 18
miles. Our GPS coordinates: 50°26.933 N, 125°45.114 W. Next, take showers, fix the shower pump
twice, eat dinner, and go to bed.

Good
night. It blew like crazy, but our
anchor held fast and although we swung, we did not bounce. We had planned to leave at 5 this morning
before the winds picked up, but caution got the better of us and we are staying
put. Half the boats leave at the same
time midmorning. They are going in the
opposite direction and were waiting for the current to change. It is a nice day today at least here
in our protected anchorage. I like this
location because it has a great mountain view.
