QUIET MORNING PRUTH HARBOUR, CALVERT
ISLAND
FITZ HUGH SOUND
Heading out Kwakshua Channel into
Fitz Hugh Sound. There are no other
boats anywhere to be seen until the afternoon.
SAILING IN FITZ HUGH SOUND
As soon as we are in the sound we
set sails for a downwind run that take over two hours at 3-5 knots. It is very peaceful. Other than the mechanical sound of the water
maker, all we hear is the lapping of water against the hull and the flapping of
the U.S. flag off the stern.
We don’t have to change direction
until we are past Fish Egg Inlet. We
turn west for a short while before stowing the sails and motoring into our
anchorage.
FURY COVE
This is a lovely spot between
little Fury Island and the larger Penrose Island. Fury Cove is large enough for several boats
in 25-50 feet, but not enough room for fetch.
While very protected from the swells, the wind does swirl around about
spinning you on the anchor. There is a
picturesque gravel beach and gaps in the landscape to reveal a window to the
sound.
We didn’t quite fill the water
tank today. Engine hours 2.4, nautical
miles 4.5. Our GPS coordinates 51⁰29’284
N, 127⁰45’519 W.
