Leisurely getting ready this
morning. The wind is coming out of the
south. The procession of boats leaving the harbor starts early. By our
figuring, slack water doesn’t occur until 11:50. Two days of sitting here has packed the
anchor with dark sticky mud. We leave at
1050 and proceed slowly. The distance
from the harbor to Northumberland Channel is quite rough. The radio chatter from those wanting to go
through the narrows is constant. This is
about the least amount of current we have experienced going through. Once through and clear of the traffic we set
the sails. Our downwind sail is slow and
comfortable. When it gets a little too
slow we put the genoa away and get out the spinnaker. We have to motor a little to find enough wind
for the spinnaker. When up and flying we
have a respectable speed and even heal.
The ride is thrilling, but short.
Not long we start motoring again to our destination, Clam Bay, between
Thetis and Kuper Islands. We anchor in
40 feet among several other boats.
Travel time 4 hours 20 minutes, engine hours 2.7, nautical miles 19.45. Our GPS coordinates: 48⁰58’923 N, 123⁰38’800 W.
