It is a gorgeous morning with no
rain in sight. Little birds are fliting
here and there skimming across the water.
It looks like 09:00 is the time to leave for the sailboats. We wait
until we’re out in Johnstone Strait to start the water maker. The water is much clearer. We have been getting behind in our water
production due to the abundance of 5 micron size particles in the Broughton
water that clogs the filters.
HAVANNAH CHANNEL APPROACHING
JOHNSTONE STRAIT
FLYING THE ASYMETRICAL SPINAKER
There is a light wind off the
stern and we decide to deploy the asymmetrical spinnaker. It takes 20 minutes to unpack and run the
lines. When flying the spinaker totally
blocks out the sun. It looks
spectacular. The deployment and first
Jibe go well which is thrilling.
Subsequent maneuvers don’t go as well for various reasons. All in all we have a very nice sail. It is stowed at just the right time.
STOWING THE SPINAKER POLE
In the afternoon the wind speed increases
above 10 knots and whitecaps start forming. Motoring into Sunderland Channel, out
destination is Forward Harbor. The
anchor is set in 60-70 feet and we have a beautiful mountain view off the
stern. After a little housekeeping and
handyman work, it’s time for BBQ chicken dinner. Travel time 5 hours and 50 minutes, engine
hours 3.8, nautical miles 27.2. Our GPS
coordinates: 50⁰28’912 N, 125⁰45’202 W.
